So I thought I'd do some small book reviews because I have plenty of free time in my unemployed life to read... but there wasn't much reading going on in August. There were more naps and Netflix than reading, but I'd still like to tell you all about the book I read this month and what's on my reading list for September!
Touch by Courtney Maum
4 out of 5 stars
I was recommended this book via Belletrist (@belletrist on Instagram), the social media book club founded by Emma Roberts and Karah Preiss. Interesting that a social media book club chooses a book that focuses on tech vs. touch. The novel was a little slow moving at first, but once you get into the revelations that trend forecaster Sloane Jacobsen begins to make while working in-house at Mammoth, a tech-company that feels slightly Apple-esque, the book really picks up speed. The plot was a little predictable and the final chapter seemed like too neat of ending for me but it was still a good read nonetheless and gets you thinking about our relationships with tech and our relationships with actual human beings.
For September, I'm going to finish up "D.V." by Diana Vreeland, former editor-in-chief of Vogue, and hopefully start and finish "Sex and Rage: A Novel" by Eve Babitz. There are about 30 other books on my list in a notebook, but I'm just trying to take it one book (and nap) at a time right now.
Let me know what you think of Maum's novel and what books you'd recommend in the comments!
