I'd like to start a new series here on the blog discussing my top five of various topics/events/etc. And there's no better way to start that series than to talk about the prom of fashion last night: the Met Gala.
For the last couple of years, this has been an event I've looked forward to solely for the red carpet fashion, but after visiting the Rei Kawakubo/Comme des Garçons: Art of the In-Between exhibit for myself last year in New York, I've been looking forward to the exhibit itself as well.
The theme of the exhibit this year is Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination, and not to be cliché, but the red carpet fashion definitely was heavenly this year. Here were five of my favorite looks of the night:
Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen
Making a rare public appearance, the Olsen twins came to slay on the ivory carpet. While their looks don't scream the theme outright, it doesn't matter because they're the effing Olsen twins. (P.S. wearing a dress from their line Elizabeth & James for graduation and couldn't be more excited!!!)
Kendall Jenner in Off-White
This is a complete 180 from her very naked look last year, but this Off-White set is to die for. I need the whole look immediately. Her hair, makeup and minimal jewelry also perfected the look instead of distracting from the statement-making set.
Cardi B in Moschino
Cardi came thru drippin' in this custom Moschino that had a matching set for designer Jeremy Scott, Cardi's date. This is Met Gala maternity style goals. I didn't even mind the headpiece to complete the look either. Definitely Cardi's style from what we've seen of her at public appearances so far.
Blake Lively in Versace
This dress needed a party bus to transport Blake to the gala but #worthit. She looks absolutely stunning always, but more so last night with the dramatic train, matching eye look and somewhat subtle headpiece. Her look was a close second for me, but we all know who owned the Met last night...
Rihanna in Maison Margiela by John Galliano
Pope Fenty brought the house down last night with this look. Only Rihanna could show up as the pope and everyone would love it... except for my mom maybe. But it's fashun. Also, Fenty Beauty posted the makeup details on social media and it looks like we have some new product coming out soon. Bye, money.
It was a lot harder to choose just five looks from last night as a lot of people looked stunning and really nailed this year's theme. I can't wait to go see the exhibit for myself in June. Let me know what you're favorite look of the night was and if you're making a trip out to NYC to get a look at the purpose behind this night of extravagance.
