On this fine Monday, I'm coming at you guys with my first product review! Today I'll be discussing the Nyx Cosmetics Avant Pop! Shadow Palettes, my likes, dislikes and overall thoughts on the product.
First off, Nyx is a relatively inexpensive brand that can be found at Ulta and I believe Target as well. I love most of their products that I have tried and are a great brand for finding dupes of high-end products.
A little under a year ago, Nyx released three 10-color shadow palettes all with a different art name: Art Throb, Nouveau Chic, and Surreal My Heart. Each palette contains a mix of matte and shimmer colors and can be used to create every day looks or some fun, colorful not-so-every-day looks. On the back of the packaging, it even offers an idea for a day look and a night look.
Let's talk about packaging. The casing is plastic and the lid clicks into the bottom piece that holds the shadows. The name of the product is written in white font on the top and the lid is clear so the shadows can be seen. The packaging is simple and goes along with the inexpensiveness of the brand. It gives a good presentation, so for that, I give them an A in packaging.
Now about the individual palettes. I'm going to start off with Art Throb:
Art Throb is the brightest palette of the three. There is one matte and all the rest are shimmer. I love the colors that this one offers, but it's definitely geared more towards a going out look as opposed to everyday wear.
These shadows are very, very pigmented which is sometimes hard to come by in drugstore-priced eyeshadows, my only complaint is that they have a lot of fallout when you use them. Fallout means that the shadow will fall from your eyes onto your cheeks, and this happens to me while I use these. This could be because these shadows are on the drier side, but this is a minor thing that can easily be wiped away with a makeup wipe and covered with a little concealer.
Next we have Nouveau Chic:
This is by far my favorite of the three palettes that they released just due to the versatility of the shadows. These are perfect for everyday wear since there are four mattes and some lighter shimmer colors for a natural look. A look like that can easily be modified for night by some of the darker, shimmer shadows that are offered. I've gotten the most use out of this palette, but again, it does have a lot of fallout during use for me personally.
Lastly, we have Surreal My Heart:
I've gotten the least use of of this palette, but I still think the colors are beautiful. What's nice about this palette in particular is the fact that it has six mattes. These mattes are perfect for every day use, but I think I like the shimmers in this palette the most out of the three. They remind me of an ocean or a tropical bird. These shadows are so pigmented and don't require you to build up the shadow on the lid, and if you wet your brush, these shimmers will become even more pigmented and bright.
Overall, I give these palettes my stamp of approval. They're wallet-friendly ($16.99, Ulta) and are perfect for creating a lot of different looks with just 10 shadows. Let me know in the comments if you'd like to see any looks with these palettes!
May your coffee be strong and your Monday be short!
P.S. These palettes are actually on a BOGO 50% off deal right now at Ulta, so get them while you can!
