Yesterday started one of two of my favorite weeks of the year: New York Fashion Week. While I hope that every year will be the year that I will be able to attend fashion week or at least be in New York during that time, I'm still stuck in the suburbs of Chicago. Despite this, I try to keep up with all of the shows and street style throughout the week-long parade of fashion.
Instead of doing one large post at the end of all the spring 2019 shows letting you know which shows and looks I enjoyed the most, I decided to split it up into bite-sized chunks and give you day-by-day breakdowns of both my favorites on and off the runway. Everyday at 10 a.m. CDT from now until September 15, I'll have two posts going live breaking down both my runway favorites and my street style favorites. So let's jump right in with my favorites on the runway from yesterday's opening NYFW day.
Cinq à Sept
The final look in Cinq à Sept's presentation has me wishing for spring to come back around so I can wear it. I also love their fun take on suiting with both a floral and metallic option. They also stayed true to the breezy and beautiful dresses I've come to love their brand for.
I've been seeing a lot of leather pants appearing in the spring lines and I am HERE for it. I love Frame's jogger-inspired iteration paired with that rusty balloon sleeve sweater. I can't wait to see these pieces in store come the spring season.
Mara Hoffman was the big presentation of day 1 and it's easy to see why. How can you not be excited for spring with the flowy dresses and easy silhouettes she designed. I especially love the floral button-down maxi dress that's layered over what looks like wide-leg linen pants — definitely using that layering trick come spring 2019.
Matthew Adams Dolan
My fashion interests have definitely shifted to a love of suiting lately. Norma Kamali's spring collection gives off that cool suiting look that I hope to have when I finally get a job. I also love the photography of this look book. It's fun and different from the typical presentation photos that brands release for their upcoming lines.
If I had any reason to wear a formal gown, I'd probably pick one of these from Pamella Roland's spring show. I love the various silhouettes she used and the pops of floral and sparkle in some of the gowns. The golden fringe cocktail dress reminds me of a grown up and better looking of my senior year homecoming dress in high school.
Rag & Bone
Rag & Bone is always one of the presentations I look forward to the most each season. Their styling always gives off that casual/cool/actually ready-to-wear vibe. I'm loving their mixture of trench coats with knee-high boots. It's definitely a styling tip I'm going to be stealing for spring 2019.
Sachin & Babi
I'm loving all the bright colors in Sachin & Babi's spring collection... who have I become? The shape of the pieces are really drawing me in as well. I'm loving the bold ruffles and suit-style looks that they presented for the season.
I'm going to count Tom Ford in day 1 even though he showed on the eve of NYFW. Ford's runway showed that the lingerie and animal print trends are here to stay for spring 2019 — they're just getting a little tougher with dark colors and leather. He always manages to put together a stunning show and this season was no exception for me.
What were your favorite looks and shows from day 1? Let me know in the comments and be sure to check out my street style favorites from yesterday as well!
