Those who know me well know that I'm obsessed with Kylie Jenner and her cosmetic line. I'm actually surprised that I haven't gotten around to it sooner, but here is my review on a few of her famous matte lip kits and metal matte lipsticks.
So, first things first, the actual review. I personally LOVE the lip kits. I think that Kylie has created a wide range of colors and the formula is one of my favorites. They also smell like vanilla and don't have a chemical smell like other liquid lipsticks I've tried. I know that some people may think that her lip kits are drying, but it's all about exfoliating and moisturizing your lips beforehand to avoid desert lips. Another thing that a lot of people talk about is the similarity to Colourpop's Ultra Matte formula. I would agree that they're similar, and at a much lower price point, but they don't typically have matching lip liners.
In terms of the metal matte lipsticks, I like them, but they're not my favorite. For me, they aren't really matte. They stay pretty sticky even after having been on my lips for a few minutes. I'll still wear them, especially Heir which is my favorite, but I'll usually pick a matte lipstick instead of a metallic.
I think that the lip liners are the best product from her line... at least out of the ones that I've tried. The formula is so creamy and smooth and they match exactly to the lipsticks. I use Candy K lip liner more than I use the actual lipstick. I'm so excited that she decided to sell the lipsticks and lip liners separately because I am getting close the end of my liner.
The packaging is another talking point in a lot of reviews. Like most of the Kylie Jenner followers, I love the packaging. It's so fresh and cool and it really standouts from other brand packaging. The lips are my favorite part of the box, and I love that they match the color of the lip kit. The glass bottle that the product is in is so sleek and the addition of Kylie's signature is a nice touch.
Overall, I love the packaging and the product itself. I think it's worth it, but I understand that some can't afford to purchase a $29 lip kit (I actually can't but that doesn't stop me, right, mom?) and in all honesty, you're paying for the name. These are my favorite liquid lipsticks on the market right now, regardless of the fact that they're from Kylie. I've tried A LOT of liquid lipsticks, and these are by far my favorite.
Now for some swatches (finally)!
Candy K Lip Kit: Warm pinky nude
My favorite lip kit color that I currently own.
Freedom Lip Kit: Rich navy blue
LOL because I left the lip liner at home and had to do the following swatches with only the lipstick.
Dead of Knight Lip Kit: Intense true black
A lipstick to match my soul.
Heir Metal: Golden metallic peach
Since the metals don't have matching liners, I did use Candy K Lip Liner underneath. Without it, it's a lot lighter shade of pink.
Kymajesty Metal: Blackened gunmetal sprinkled with silver and multi-colored glitter on top
THIS IS NOT ONLY KYMAJESTY ON MY LIPS. If you follow Kylie and her cosmetics line, you'll know that there was some controversy around this shade not living up to the promo photos Kylie released on both her personal Instagram and business Instagram pages and being half empty when people received their packages. I personally received a full lipstick, but I did layer this over Dead of Knight Lip Liner and Lipstick so that it would appear as it did on Kylie in her photos. Without layering at least a black liner underneath, the color is VERY sheer and doesn't appear as the bluish-black metallic in the photos.
I can't wait until I can finally buy and test out the Kyshadow palette and brand new Kyliners that came out today. I also want to try more of her lip kit colors. The next ones on my list are Kourt K, Maliboo, Ginger, Kourt K, Posie K, Dolce K, Exposed, Reign and all of her glosses since I haven't tried them yet!
Please give me a round of applause for applying these using only my front facing phone camera.
